Mountain Blue is a 3-minute study of seventh-chords and is the first movement of "Fiori Musicali: Five Preludes for Piano," written for a concert of Mauldin's works in 1986, and dedicated to the memory of his professor, James Van Slyke. The ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL said the movement was "elegant and poignant in neo-Classical fashion."
