Description

If you have not played a piece before in "5," relax--it's not that bad. As you approach performance tempo, the gentle swing may be a pleasant surprise. As with many pieces in 5,the beats in each measure are divided into "3 plus 2." The first three beats are felt as one group, and the last two, another.

In the beginning, the left hand is being two people at once. See if you can actually account for all five beats for each person. The slight hesitation "written in" in measure 25 is important since if reflects a feeling of changing direction in mid-flight, like a kite in a gentle breeze. Measure 25 begins as if it were an "answer" to measure 23/4, but where one would expect the second half of the answer (measure 26), there is a sudden return to the opening tune.
